What
is the difference between Artists Proofs and Regular Proofs?
The artist proofs are limited to 10% of the edition.
They are traditionally chosen by the artist, but nowadays, editions
are quite uniform from first to last proof.
The a.p.'s (artist proofs) are more in demand because they're more
rare and are usualy 20% more expensives.

What
is the difference between Lithography on paper compared with a canvas
edition?
The canvas edition is much more limited than the lithography on
paper.
The colors are richer and deeper on the canvas and the pigments are
protected. Also the canvas is framed without glass, eliminating glare
problems associated with glass.

Who
are the children?
Chantal paints children that inspire her. They are neighbours, children
that Chantal met by accident or whom she noticed at the local schools.

|
Are
all the paintings from actual children?
The paintings made prior to 1995 were usually partly imaginary.
Before Chantal met the model that had the perfect expression she
was looking for, she was using children to pose for the creases
in the clothes, the hands, the accessories ect. She would imagine
the faces.

Why
does she paints mostly girls?
When Chantal started painting figures she painted her only son
Olivier. It was a little bit hard having to sell the paintings of
your own son. One day Olivier said to Chantal "why do you always
sell me Mom?" Of course Chantal was heart broken to hear that.
She was working on a painting featuring her son at that time. She
turned him into a girl. On the canvas that is! The response at the
gallery was instantaneous. That was in 1985 and the rest is history.
She has painted a few other boys in the past 15 years, but quiet
boys are very hard to find. They don't sit still! She was looking
for a boy for 4 years before she found Felix for the painting Thank
You. He just walked in the gallery one Sunday afternoon with his
parents!

Why
sisters?
Chantal has two sisters (an older one and a younger one). When
she was 7 her mother got very sick and spent 2 years in the hospital.
Chantal spent a lot of time with her younger sister, entertaining
her, telling her stories, showing her things etc. This is probably
a part of the explanation.

Is
it the same girl?
Some of the girls posed for Chantal on many occasions like Marie-Pier
(7 paintings). She is the oldest on The Skaters, May Baskets, Summer
time, Autumn, New Friends, Little Bird, and she is the younger one
on Season for Sharing. Carolanne is the youngest on Autumn, Little
Bird and The Secret. Victoria is the youngest on The Skaters, May
Baskets and Summer time. Some of girls appeared on just one painting.
On Sunday Stroll Coralie is the Youngest girl and Lili-Maude is
the oldest. On Together, Isha is the youngest and Claudine is the
Oldest. On Once Upon A Time, Marie is the oldest and Catherine is
the younger. On Thank You, Sophie is the Big sister and Felix is
the Little brother and they are actual brother and sister.

Does
Chantal paint commission portraits?
She does, but very seldom. It 's a very big undertaking. Many
months of work, and she does not always have the time. What she
does is black and white portraits. It's much faster and much more
affordable (from $ 900.00 Can). She needs a good photo
(without the teeth showing and with enough detail) to inspire her.
